SAILING AWAY
For Eileen, My M.E. Friend in Hawaii
A huge moon blooms over Elmwood Park,
Illuminating silvery
snow-tipped trees.
The silvered grass
shines like shimmering seas,
Oh, how I wish I
could embark....
I've lived in these
Isles for too many years -
Sadness, Isolation,
Fatigue and Pain -
Sated with scenery, tired of terrain,
And especially
exhausted by the Isle of Tears.
I want to sail away
to the Isle of Health,
Tack around the
Isles of Friendship and Peace.
Sail the archipelago
of Joyful Ease,
But sail past the
over-rated Isle of Wealth.
I want to go now,
before it is too late,
Before the waters
rise, and rise, and rise.
Before my desired
Isles disappear before my eyes,
And leave me
stranded here, abandoned to ME fate.
