THE EARTH IS HURTING....OR, GAIA CRIES
Written during one of many "Saharan Plumes" during long, hot summer of 2018
For Emmy, a Young Environmentalist
My dearest friend is not looking well.
There’s something
seriously wrong.
Usually so alive and
vibrant,
Resilient, healthy
and strong.
But now, a sallow,
yellow-y tinge,
Desiccated, dull and
dry.
Withered, scorched
and shrivelled,
It’s so sad – I
want to cry…
If she were able,
she would cry,
Though never known
to complain.
Parched and cracked,
she whispers:
“Rain….. .. I must
have rain….”
